More of What Our Favorite Authors Are Reading This Summer

Thanks to so many authors who participated, there will be a Part 3 tomorrow!
Here is #2!

Lee Woodruff author of Those We Love Most

“I’ve got my usual summer ‘bag’  of books i keep piling up and savor in the summer. It’s a real mix, from Robert Gates book  Duty to Supersurvivors by Fedlman and Kravetz who looked at the link between suffering and success. I’m  finishing Andrew Solomon’s  Far from the Tree and I’m excited to start Summer House with Swimming Pool  by Herman Koch and am listening on audible to The Possibilities by Kaui Hart Hemmings.” Lee continues, “Also up– Liz Gilbert’s  Stern Men— I’ve  always wanted to go back and read her earlier stuff– , David Gilbert’s  & Sons, Lorrie Moore’s  Bark and Lydia Denworth’s  I can Hear You Whisper – how is that for eclectic!”

Next up – ” Yikes– I guess you can grab some of the above titles– I’m  finishing in the car — on CD– Crash of the Titans by Greg Farrell to try to understand the economic crash– and I’m  excited that Sue Miller has a new book out, The Arsonist! I’m a huge fan of hers.”

Working on -“I’m  trying to work on a novel this summer that flashes back and forth from the 70s to today— this one involves more research than things ive done in the past.”

Dani Shapiro author of Still Writing

“I’m reading a number of books at once — unusual for me. Emma Straub‘s THE VACATIONERS, re-reading Annie Dillard‘s PILGRIM AT TINKER CREEK, and just finished Elena Ferrante‘s MY BRILLIANT FRIEND, the first in her trilogy. Up next is my former student and friend Mira Jacob’s first novel, coming out in July, THE SLEEPWALKER’S GUIDE TO DANCING, and Joanna Rakoff’s MY SALINGER YEAR.”

“I’m in the throes of beginning something new. But I’m way too superstitious to talk about it.”

“I’m in L.A. on my book tour and am reading my best friend’s novel REAL HAPPY FAMILY, by Caeli Wolfson Widger. A fun pageturner of a dysfunctional family drama set in L.A. Also funny.”

“Next up is Courtney Maum‘s hotly anticipated novel I’m Having So Much Fun Here Without You and Tiphanie Yanique‘s novel The Land of Love & Drowning. I’m interviewing both writers at Bryant Park’s Word for Word series in NYC on July 16th at 12:30pm. Open to the public.”

“I’m at work on my next novel, tentatively titled The Gypsy Moth Summer, and it is a Romeo & Juliet story set in a suburban Long Island town in the early ’90s–class tension, racism, teens behaving badly, the American dream, and lots of caterpillars.”
