And Then There Were EVEN More! What Our Favorite Authors Are Reading This Summer!

UnknownI’m not saying this is the last of this type of post. With so many people interested in knowing what their favorite authors are reading -we can keep going with this!

Robin Antalek author of The Summer We Fell Apart

Reading now- “I just finished The Vacationers by Emma Straub and Bittersweet by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore ~ both extremely captivating reads!”

Up next- “On the TBR tower is My Salinger Year by Joanna Rakoff and Friendship by Emily Gould. There are so many great books out right now which makes me so very happy.”

Working on- “My second novel The Grown Ups will be published by William Morrow in January of 2015. This book is about a close knit group of friends including two brothers who may or may not have fallen for the same girl at different times in their lives. The story spans about fifteen years in the lives of these characters. It’s been a long and twisty road since The Summer We Fell Apart and I couldn’t be more pleased with how things turned out with The Grown Ups. I’m also starting to get serious about the next book. Which means I’ll have to read faster – no reading fiction for me while I write!”

Ayelet Waldman author of Love & Treasure

Reading now- The Secrets of the Flesh: A Life of Colette by Judith Thurman

Next up-  The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig

Elizabeth Benedict author of What My Mother Gave Me: Thirty-one Women on the Gifts That Mattered Most

“I spent the first part of the summer reading short stories by the genius Jim Shepard, and his novel Project X, so I could introduce him at the NY State Summer Writers Institute. Now I’m reading Howard Norman’s newest novel, Next Life Might Be Kinder, which I love, and I’m reading a bunch of books that are research for the novel I’m allegedly writing, which is so far from being finished, I don’t dare say another word about it.” and

Jessica Keener author of Women in Bed: Nine Stories

“It’s always so hard to pick out a few titles from my to-read list, but I have three novels that I’d like to mention because they are all just out and I’m excited about all three: Lydia Netzer’s new novel that just came out: How to Tell Toledo From the Night SkyRobin Black’s debut novel: Life Drawing  and Scott Cheshire’s debut novel just out. It’s called High as The Horses’ Bridles.”

Working on- “In my world: I’ve got a new novel that will be coming out with Algonquin. It’s set in Budapest in the mid-1990s. Basically, it’s a story that asks: what moral lines would you cross to protect your child? A grieving father—Edward Weiss—travels from Boston to Budapest to take matters into his own hands for he is convinced his son-in-law has murdered his daughter and gotten away with it. That same year, an American couple with their newly adopted baby son moved from Boston to Budapest for the promise of building a business. They soon become dangerously entangled with Edward’s quest to hunt down the truth. A story of family tragedies becomes woven into the larger tapestry of World War II’s lingering secrets.”
