The Story Of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon

The Story of Beautiful Girl is an unlikely love story and an incredible tale of survival. In the 1960’s when deaf and mentally challenged children were routinely put into institutions, Beautiful girl, Lynnie, meets and falls in love with Homan, an older African American deaf man. When pregnant Lynnie is about to give birth, Homan devises a plan for them to escape the brutal, mind numbing institution. After giving birth to a baby girl, Lynnie and Homan make it as far as the widow Martha’s house where they are found by the people from the institution. Giving the baby to Martha with the words “Hide her”, Lynnie is brought back to the institution while Homan escapes. With this intriguing start to the book the story that ensues is one of courage and faith, hope and love. Rachel Simon’s book is well worth reading.
